Andrew Weil
Andrew Weil
The Father of Integrative Medicine
February 1, 2012

Dr. Andrew Weil has spent a career pulling the idea of integrative medicine from the fringes of popular culture to give it a compatible place within the medical establishment. Thirty years on, many of us make the assumption that health care is how we live and breathe, not simply a trip to the doctor's office, thanks to Weil's pioneering spirit.

One of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People, Dr. Weil is the Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine. There, the Center is a world leader in revolutionizing the ways we use plants, mind/body interactions, and nutrition to heal our bodies and improve our quality of life.

Weil first bridged tradition and innovation in his early work at Harvard, where he focused on botany as an undergrad and then went on to get his M.D. He intertwined each base of knowledge, working for the National Institutes of Health, then travelling to North and South America and Africa to study the ancient tradition of medicinal plants and how other cultures treated disease.

The now-iconic father of good health, Weil has enchanted audiences from the Colbert Report to The Today Show with his delightfully infectious passion for inspiring listeners to live their healthiest lives. His website has become a leading resource for healthy living. Weil is also a regular contributor to Prevention magazine and the author of six New York Times #1 bestselling books.
